Rain Sensory Activity
Morning. Now here is some half term weather! We often say “ oh it’s terrible weather “ But it’s just weather! We won’t melt. For some countries it a blessing.
So here are a few ideas. Wrap up the little one and older ones too…. and sent them out to play. They don’t need to be out for long. Put out loads of bowls and sauce pans and flat trays out. (things that make different sounds) See how much rain can be collected. Give them a ruler and measure the rain fall. Give them an umbrella ☔️. Hear the sounds. Turn it up the wrong way. Ask the children to sit. (better in water proofs 😂) But if not just do it last thing. Ask them to listen. Really, really listen with eyes closed. What can they hear? Hear 👂 the sound on the pans…. on the leaves 🍁 🍂. What else can they hear?. Do the birds 🐦 still 🎶 sing. Look all around at the rain collected. The rain on a spiders 🕷 web. On the different colour leaves. How much rain was collected all together ?
When they come in. Dry off and have hot chocolate 🍫. Ask the children to draw what they heard and saw. To extend this work with gratitude. Ask why we are great full for this so called rotten weather. What does it give us……. drinking water 🚰. Growth of food …….. if you do this I’d love to hear how you got on. 😀. Have fun. I’m running mindfulness sessions for children at the nature reserve today. I think we may need hot water bottles and waterproofs. Through these games your children will learn………. with out even realising. Size, capacity, estimation, volume , measuring and gratitude and much more. Enjoy.
